Contraception: Sterilisation
Sterilisation
With many options of effective contraception available, sterilisation should not often be required around the time of the perimenopause since it does require an operation but for some women will still be considered. Sterilisation in women has mostly been in the form of application of a clip to each Fallopian tube via a laporoscope, under general anaesthetic. More recently, the out-patient technique of inserting a block in each Fallopian tube by using a telescope (hysteroscope) which is passed through the vagina and cervix is being developed but is not yet widely available.
